Island of Muksalma
Take a look at the map of Solovki. This is the small island south-east, connected to the Big Island by a dam. This dam is one of the masterpiece of monastery engineering. It was built by monks and got several arches in it allowing tidal water in and out. This island was used to keep monastery cattle, since according to their regulations cattle wasn't allowed to breed at the same island with monks. The are ruins of 2-3 buildings remaining from monastery times. Before 1917 Revolution belonged to the Muksalma hermitage and were used as a prison during Gulag. Well, all constructions including the monastery itself were used as prisons during those times.
